This fine routine combines two popular effects for children: "The Vanishing Elephant" and "The Clatter Box". Previously this prop was only available with French text, but now it comes in a version where you can write your own text (using a whiteboard marker), such as “POST” or even the name of the city where you're performing.
You tell your young audience that when you were a child, you sent your Christmas wishes to Santa every year. In fact, it was Santa who sent you your first magic box, which is why you’re here today as a magician.
You show the children "The Magical Mailbox" – essentially a small base with a slot and two vertical panels. You display an envelope, write "Santa" on it, and perhaps stick on a stamp, which you pick up in the otherwise empty Post Office. You then place the letter between the two slots, where it should magically be transported directly to Santa in Greenland.
However, your sharp-eyed audience notices that the letter is hanging beneath the panel. Oops!
No need to panic! You try again – this time performing for the adults (as the children already know what’s happening). You cover the front of the mailbox with a small curtain, place the letter between the panels again, and turn the mailbox halfway around, letting everyone get a glimpse of the letter behind the curtain.
Of course, the children react and point out they know where the letter is. But to their great surprise, when you remove the curtain, the letter is actually gone! Could it already be at the post office? You ask your assistant to open the small post office. As soon as the door opens, it "explodes" and falls apart, leaving your young assistant holding the roof. And dangling from the roof is… the letter to Santa!
